The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York |
The Buffalo Zoo has welcomed Mozzarella, a 7-month-old male capybara, into the M&T Bank Rainforest Falls exhibit.
Born at New Jersey’s Cape May County Zoo in November 2025, Mozzarella’s arrival is part of an AZA Species Survival Plan, aimed at supporting healthy animal populations.
He is already charming guests as he explores his new habitat, shows off his swimming skills, and interacts with fellow rainforest residents like turtles and birds.
As the world’s largest rodents, capybaras are native to South America and thrive in wetland areas.
Mozzarella helps highlight wildlife conservation, reflecting both the capybara’s unique traits and the importance of protecting their habitats.
This summer, visitors can also enjoy the ProZoo Board’s Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament on June 26, plus the exciting Destination Dinosaur exhibition full of animatronic dinosaurs and family fun.
The Buffalo Zoo is open daily, offering tickets online and at the gate. Read More... |
The Meet Me Downtown Initiative is launching a wave of energy in downtown Buffalo, uniting the city, Erie County, and M&T Bank to fund local events that boost community spirit.
Mayor Sean Ryan highlighted the power of partnership to build a better, more lively Buffalo, inviting people to discover downtown beyond office hours.
This summer’s lineup includes six can’t-miss events: two Chippewa Street block parties, a Street Soccer Cup and World Cup celebration, Picklefest at Buffalo RiverWorks, The Main Block Party at Fountain Plaza, and Circle the Square 2 at Niagara Square.
County Executive Mark Poloncarz encouraged families and friends to embrace these gatherings, making downtown the go-to spot for summer enjoyment.
Adding to the buzz, new businesses like Old City Pizza, Hencraft, and the newly renovated Colored Musicians Club & Jazz Museum are drawing more visitors, ensuring downtown Buffalo thrives with excitement and fresh experiences. Read More... |
Tucked between Buffalo and Rochester, the Town of Yates has reopened Yates Town Park after a transformative $2.5 million upgrade.
This park now features newly improved trails, a resilient shoreline along Lake Ontario, and a 75-foot pier perfect for fishing or sightseeing.
A concrete ramp allows for easy canoe and kayak launches, while an accessible playground, spacious pavilion, and expanded parking—including spots for horse-drawn buggies—welcome visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
Serving a community of about 2,500 residents, Yates has a rich heritage and offers a peaceful escape just 55 miles from city life, accessible from both BUF and ROC airports.
The nearby Western New York Land Conservancy plans to add even more nature trails, enhancing outdoor opportunities for all.
